RAMON VALDEZ, OWNER/CREATOR EXOTIC
WOODWORKS
I began Exotic Woodworks in 1998 to pursue
my lifelong dream of creating unique furniture of the
highest quality.
My creations are
primarily one-of-a-kind pieces featured in galleries,
exhibitions and for private clients. These works of art are
primarily contemporary, always drawing inspiration from
nature’s graceful lines and gentle curves. Future heirlooms
are created utilizing many exotic species of wood from all
around the world.
Beautiful exotics, combined with
domestic species are distinctive to Exotic Woodworks.
I had the
privilege to study under
Craig Vandall Stevens,
a well-known marquetarian, furniture builder and teacher, in
2005. In the summer of 2006, I had the opportunity to study
furniture design with
Michael C. Fortune
at Anderson Ranch in
Aspen,
Colorado.
The knowledge and experience that I received by both of
these artist inspired me to approach my art with a newfound
passion.
I have been
featured in numerous publications, locally and nationally,
and have received many awards and honors.
In 2006,
“Flight of Fancy”,
my first marquetry box , received
first place honors
in the specialties category in the Craftsman’s Challenge
sponsored by Veneer Tech.
Most recently,
“Jounetsu”,
(Shoji screen) won
honorable mention
by Design Portfolio Award competition sponsored by CWB
Magazine.
I currently show out of Shidoni Gallery in
Sante Fe, New Mexico; Artifacts Gallery; and Nicole’s in
Farmington, New Mexico.
